One of my co-workers is learning Chinese and it is not kind.
No, it's really not, and I have very little aptitude for languages. It's just that so much gets lost in translation. I've gotten into the habit of watching most of my TV with the subtitles on - and even in English-to-English, a lot gets lost. In English subtitles to a foreign film, even more is lost (I saw Pan's Labyrinth a while back and I can follow Spanish just enough to see how very much I was missing). I'd love to be able to follow these films without the captioning.
