Where did the weekend go?
Where did the weekend go?

Friday I had a half-day off from work so I headed into Cardiff for sushi with
thanatos_kalos and a movie (with just me). The movie was Where The Wild Things Are which I really enjoyed. I thought, watching it, that it was more likely to appeal to kids than to adults (which is as it should be) and I note with amusement that most reviewers are saying the opposite. There are some grown up concepts in there, but the general anarchic tack the film takes is so not a grown-up thing. It reminded me, a little, of Roald Dahl: the movie seems to come from the same understanding of kids that he had - that kids like scary and grotesque things if they're done the right way. There was a lot in the film that didn't work for me, but mostly because I think too darn hard. Kids won't have that problem :)
I have a review half-done of the movie I saw last week, Cracks. I'm gonna post the full review, I swear. But for now let me just say that if you're in the UK, and you're sick of the gooey seasonal movies, go and see this one while it's still in the theatres. Because I found it a really powerful film, dark without being horror, and I really recommend it.
Sis dragged me to Ikea on Saturday; we couldn't find what she wanted (a gift for the small child she's always looking after) but I got some candles and found a pretty cool picture frame I can use for my con photoshoots.
The rest of the weekend I concentrated on finishing my Yuletide fic. I haven't finished it, but I'm on the last scene. And here's the trouble with writing fanfic based on a primarily visual media: that last scene is so very clear in my head, but I just can't translate that into words that work. This is a dark story (well, what else would it be, coming from me?) and the ending is supposed to pack a punch. It won't work unless I can pull that off and it's just not working for me.
This wouldn't be a problem if I didn't have the Yuletide deadline staring me down. I'd just consign it to the WIP file until the right ending came to me. Can't do that this time.
Must work harder...
Though there's another thing I need to do this week. I've got so much pent up crap from everything that's been happening in the past few months, I decided to do a proper cleansing/renewal ritual to help me get rid of it. It's been a long time since I've really practised, but now seems like the right time. Tuesday is the last day of the waning moon before it goes dark and that feels like the best time to do this.
Normally for something like this I'd head to the beach or something so I could use a natural element, but it's December and I think that would be a little too cold! So I've got to come up with something else :-)
Which is a long-winded way of saying if you e-mail me on Tuesday I won't be replying for a while.
