Is there time for another meme?

That interview meme is doing the rounds again :)

How it works:
1. You comment on this entry.
2. I ask you five questions.
3. You answer those five questions in a post on your journal.
4. When people comment on that entry, you ask them five questions.
5. They answer those five questions in a post on their journal.
6. When people comment on that post, they ask them--

[personal profile] mab_browne asked me:

1. We love individual pets regardless, but is there a particular breed of cat or dog that you'd like to have, and why?

Yes, but this comes with a heavy caveat. Although I'm fundamentally more a cat person, I just love cats. I don't much care if they're a particular colour or breed. I do have an ideal dog: a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, which I would name Engels (my RL surname is Marks - you work it out).

But the caveat is this: since that documentary about the unhealthiness of the breed, this is now my fantasy pet only. I'll never actually get one. Even if I could find a healty Cavalier, I would feel like I was contributing to the problem.

2. Place in the world that you'd most like to visit and why?

There are a lot of places, actually. I've done very little foreign travel and I'm not likely to in future, but that doesn't stop me having a mental wishlist. Most of them are places I've read about in novels or even fanfic.

If I have to pick just one, it would be Santorini. Because I've read so much about the history of the place, I've even set a fic there, I'd just love to see it for real. It's the only hot country I can see myself willingly visiting.

3. Favourite item of clothing?

My crazy, insane shoes!!! Irregular Choice wooden platforms I bought for a con last year, because I wanted to be a bit taller in the photoshoots. They are surprisingly comfortable, considering the heel height, and most definitely noticable. Um...I don't have a picture, but they're solid wood platforms with a tropical scene painted on the heel and carved in 3D relief. They have purple parrots stuck on the toes.

4. Song that you most liked as a child/teenager that you're kind of embarrassed about now?

Well, unless you count stuff like the Wombles song and Rolf Harris sings 20 Children's Hits, my musical taste hasn't changed much since I was a kid. I've added to it, sure, but I still like the stuff I liked then and, well, it was embarrassing then to be into Bonnie Tyler or ABBA. You know, Mom-generation music. But I never really cared for the crap my contemporaries liked...uh, except for a-ha, and I kept liking them long after it was cool.

So it's hard to answer this one. I wouldn't say I'm embarrassed, exactly, but one of my favourites probably does reveal a little too much about me at that age: On My Own from Les Miserables.

5. What book (or set of books) would you take to a desert island?

Aha! This is one of those questions like "Who would you most like to be stuck in a lift with?" that my instinct is to answer with practicality rather than, quite, the spirit of it. The lift thing - I'd answer 'a lift engineer'.

The desert island books thing? I'm thinking some kind of survival manual would probably be a good idea. Or, if I absolutely must choose fiction, how about Jean M Auel's Earth's Children series? That's chock full of useful tips on toolmaking and hunting. (And the sixth book has finally been announced - it'll be published in March next year. I need to book leave! I've been following this series since I was 14. Can't wait!)

Right. I'm off to work on my TS Big Bang fic.
