I really enjoy the time you're taking with the backstory and characterisation -- it definitely kicks up the tension.

Mm, thank you. I'm really torn in this story between wanting to focus on the John/Sam stuff and not wanting to leave Dean out of it all. The next story is Dean-lite, but it's leading into (finally!) something that will bring the three men together again.
