Another big bang finished!
I finally finished my rough draft of Kingdom Come, my fic for ![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
ladiesbigbang. I was hoping to submit two, but the other won't be ready in time.
Kingdom Come is a prequel to Deliver Us From Evil which is my AU post-apocalyptic fic in which Sam is king of the demons. That one was in Mary's POV.
The prequel is also mostly in Mary's POV, mostly. AU because Mary is still alive and the Winchesters are not hunters. It begins in what would be SPN season one with Sam going missing, and continues through the apocalypse to explain why the characters ended up where they are in the other fic. It's dark, but actually less so than my usual darkfic because it's a prequel: everyone has to survive :)
It was really fun to write: a John and Dean who are not hunters, a Dean carrying none of his canon baggage (but a fair amount of AU stuff instead). A Mary who is a hunter, even if she doesn't want to be. I had loads of fun with badass!Mary in one battle scene. And a Sam who knows nothing about the supernatural until he's in the middle of it, making all the wrong choices.
Rough drafts are due on Sept 1st...posting is in October. Which really suits this one - it'll be a good Halloween fic.

“Invisible,” John said again. “But from the claw marks it had to be the size of a grizzly. At least.”
“But that’s...” Mary began. She went very pale. “Oh, god, John. It must have been a Hell hound. That would explain why the harness hurt it.”
“Honey, I’m convinced on the Hell part. But you need to explain what you mean about the harness.”
“Iron, John. Hell hounds are, well, what the name suggests. Demonic hunting dogs. I don’t think they can be killed, but salt or iron would hurt it. Maybe send it back to Hell.”
“So, you’re saying a Hell hound started that fire?”
“No, that must have been a demon.” Mary shivered. “It killed all those people so we couldn’t talk to Chuck.”
“Don’t you think that’s a bit paranoid, love?”
Mary took her eyes off the fire to look at him very seriously. “I sound like my father, don’t I? No, John, I don’t think it’s paranoid. In fact, I’m worried we’re not being paranoid enough.”
