Well...I'm not a lawyer or anything, but I'm kind of anal about the small print in contracts. I refused to sign my own employment contract once because it included "standard" stuff they knew darn well I couldn't agree to. Anyhow, I figured the only realistic way to break Dean's contract would be if it wasn't valid in the first place. It struck me early in S3 that the boys were behaving as if the contract was binding on Sam as well as Dean, which doesn't make sense as Sam never agreed to it. So it seemed like a fun way to do it :-)
