The ongoing argument continues.

I find myself a terrible fence-sitter about this issue. I really like the concept of recs, reviews and concrit, except of course, when I don't. Part of it is that too much concrit, especially when it's publicly offered, is neither constructive or even critical, if by that word we mean something judged and measured.

My own personal views are similar to yours as to the differences between crit, reviews and their intended audiences, but most of the communities I move in have a different viewpoint. Since I *like* to interact in the community, at what point am I acknowledging community standards, and at what point am I selling out to avoid conflict? Since I have trouble with conflict, even when it's merely discourse between opposing viewpoints. When I've attempted meta comment it's been with the awareness that even if I don't identify an issue or a story by name, not mentioning a story or an author can be an act of criticism in itself. It all makes my head hurt and leads me to prefer watching other people lead the charge of discussion...

And yes, it is hard to accept criticism, even when you've sought it out. Although if you've asked for it, then you have take with your big girl pants on.
