Dear Yuletide Secret Santa...
Thank you for writing me a story!
First let me say that I'll be tickled pink to get a story in any of the fandoms I requested, whether or not it fits with the prompts I've given. If you have a cool idea and you're not sure whether it fits what I asked for - please go for it! I truly do mean that.
My sole caveat is please don't write me comedy/crack fic. I kinda lack a sense of humour, I'm afraid.
Alexander McCall Smith - The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency
Mme Ramotswe/JLB Matekoni/Silvia Potokwane
I guess I should preface this by saying I was in no way visualising a threesome when I picked those three characters! (Though, hey, if you really think you can pull it off...) I just love the way the three of them interact although in the books they rarely appear 'onscreen' together. So I think that's what I'd most love to see: anything in which the three of them interact together. Perhaps just a conversation over tea and cake? Or perhaps there's some event at the Orphan Farm that requires the expertise of a detective or a mechanic? It would be cool to involve the orphans or Mme Ramotswe's foster children in some way, but not essential.

Andrea/Julie Olsen/Kate Daniels
My absolute favourite thing about this universe is the vampires. I love how utterly creepy they are, and the potential for carnage if the navigator loses control, although that seems to happen rarely. I thought of Unicorn Lane because after Magic Strikes I thought I'd really like to read about Kate being completely out of her depth (seems to me she often thinks she's outclassed, but rarely actually is).
I love Kate's relationship with Julie. I enjoy that Julie considers herself Kate's equal, even though she's just a kid. I like that Kate insists she can't be a mom, even as that's exactly what she's being. I included Andrea because I love her relationship with Kate, too. It would be interesting to read Kate/Andrea as a pairing, but I love them as friends: I think they're both the only real 'girlfriend' the other has, because they're both hiding secrets from everyone else. And Andrea can kick ass just as well as Kate!
Kristine Kathryn Rusch - Retrieval Artist Series
Miles Flint/Paloma
I'm interested in the Miles/Paloma backstory because what we know of them from the books makes them seem such an unlikely pair. Why do they trust each other so much? How did Miles come to know a retrieval artist so well anyway?
But although I only nominated these two characters, I will be thrilled with just about any fic set in this 'verse, whether it involves those two characters or not. Even a story about original characters set in Armstrong Dome would be great. It's the 'verse I love; I don't have any particular favourite character. I love the darkness of a world in which it's so easy to fall foul of alien justice. I love the different alien races - my favourites are the Disty because we seem to know most about their culture but what we know seems so contradictory. And they're scary if you cross them!
Poltergeist (Movies)
Carol Anne Freeling/Tangina Barrons
The thing I love most about Poltergeist is that it's all about the family, family bonds, family relationships. I didn't think to nominate this fandom or I would have added at least Diane as a character to the request list. She's such a strong mom! That said, what I would really love to read about is what happened to any of the Freeling family in the spaces of calm between the horror. I suggested two prompts: something immediately after the first movie with the characters trying to understand what's happened, or something with more distance: an adult Carol Anne, perhaps a mother herself, looking back.
General stuff: I enjoy gen, het, slash and femslash fiction. I was thinking in 'gen' terms when I wrote my prompts, but if you're not a gen writer that's fine with me. It's very hard to squick me. Just about the only thing I will not read is RPF, but I don't think that's an issue here - nothing I've requested is likely to lead to that! I love angst and darkfic (happy endings not required) and have no problems with death stories, but I don't insist on dark; I enjoy lighter stuff, too: love and romance, friendship, character vignettes...I do enjoy gentle/subtle humour but I'm not a fan of comedy or "crack" fic.
But most of all, dear Secret Santa, please do have fun writing whatever you decide to go with. Happy holidays!
