Roadhouse Con - Day 1

I'm at the hotel for Roadhouse Con and using my mobile as a modem so internet is somewhat patchy. But yay for internet!

So far - and I admit it's early days - this could not be a bigger contrast with the utter mess that was the last Asylum Con I attended. The schedule said registration opens at 2. It opened at 2. That alone makes me confident that this will be a good weekend. But, if you believe in signs and portents, I already knew that. On my coach journey to B'ham, the radio was playing constantly. I don't know what channel - music with occasional news bulletins - and I wasn't really listening. But just as the coach arrived in B'ham, literally just as we were pulling off the motorway into the city, Carry On, Wayward Son came on.

I took this as a positive sign. I got a second one, too: the train I caught to get from B'ham New Street to the NEC was going to Winchester! (okay, that one's a stretch. But still.) I got to the hotel a bit earlier than planned so I couldn't check in right away. I found ghyste in the hotel lounge with her friend...I'm crap with names. No doubt she'll have to remind me a few times before I remember. Anyhow, we met and had a great natter until 2 when the desk opened.

Anyway, there was a queue at the registration desk but it all went very smoothly. Everything that was supposed to be in my pack was in it (another huge contrast with Rogue).

So now I'm in my hotel room eating sushi and relaxing before the main event begins. The party tonight has a movie premier theme so I need to glam up (no jokes, please - I know I'm mutton dressed as lamb and I don't care). I'll try to post updates as the weekend goes on, but with this mobile/modem I don't know how easy that will be. I'll reply to comments if/when I can get a stable connection, so that'll probably be when I get home.
