I promised myself I would post today so y'all know I'm not dead, at least. Except I spilled hot fat over both my hands while making supper so typing is...not fun.

So I'll start with I hope you're all okay, and I'm sorry I've failed to notice if you're not. I've not been on DW much...or online much...for the past week or two.

Anyhow. I will at some point manage to post about my experience at Roadhouse Con - the short version is I had a fabulous time, but I won't be going next year due to the location change. I'm sure Northampton is very nice but it's not easy for this non-driver to get to.

After I got home from the con I got...um...best way to describe it is an infected injury, on my back. This is one reason I haven't been posting because it made sitting at the PC kinda painful. It's been all I can do to keep up with stuff I'd committed to; posting in my own journal as well was too much. It's mostly cleared up now - to the point where it's no longer painful, at least. (Which is no doubt why I just burned myself - Karma? I must have done something really bad last month.)

The powers-that-be where I work have also blocked most of our internet access, including most of Dreamwidth (but not LJ! It's a conspiracy, I tell you!). Now, the specific job I do means I need full internet access, including access to many sites that would be blocked for most people in our workplace, so I will get my access back. But they're taking their own sweet time about it even though they've got director-approval on file and I always did most of my journal reading from there. So I've missed a lot.

What else...I really wanted to sign up for ts secret santa this year, but looking over the requests posted there so far I really don't want to risk it. Doesn't anyone know how to write a prompt any more? I need specifics for a gift-fic, or my mind goes blank and I end up defaulting. So I guess it'll be Yuletide for me again this year...which is cool; Yuletide is fun, and now it's on AO3 I like it even more.

Oh, and I signed up for intoabar again. Despite the predictable assignment I got last time (I knew when I listed True Blood as one of my fandoms I'd end up with Eric - so very boring), it's still a cool concept for a ficathon. Pick a character from any fandom you like. List up to four other fandoms from which you'll be assigned a (supposedly) random character. Write a fic about the two characters meeting in a bar. It's so simple...and so much fun to see some of the crossovers the first round produced.

Mm. I'm off in search of more ice for my hands. Ow!

Ouch. Being a regular spiller of hot tea over my hands I know the pain of typing with burnt hands, and that's not nearly so bad as hot fat!

intoabar sounds like so much fun... it's a shame I don't write fanfic really. I might have to take a look at what gets written though, as I can envisage some interesting stories appearing!

Owww! Fat burns hurt. Is it at annoyance level or did you need to go the doctors? (First aid wisdom has it that a burn the size of a large coin should be seen by a doctor.)

I wish I had the wherewithal to do Secret Santa, but Moonridge takes up all my 'obligatory writing' energy, I'm afraid.

Oh, Mab. The only way I'd go to a doctor is if I'm so sick I can't fight them off.

This morning I'm much better. The scald was big - about half of my left hand and a quarter of the right, but that's just superficial. Only a couple of little patches visible now, and the pain is down to just irritating.

I love fic exchanges like secret santa, but my ability to do it depends on decent prompts. Yuletide is fab - people write whole letters! Most of the sign-ups for the TS one say "anything": that's generous but it's not a "prompt". *sigh*

Yeah...it's much better today. I feel like such a wimp for making the fuss I did, but last night it felt like literally half of both my hands were burned. Today it's just a few patches - painful, 2nd degree burns, but not nearly as bad as it was. I'll be fine.

Poor you. A fat burn sounds very nasty and I hope your hands are not giving you too much discomfort.

My hands are a lot better now, thanks :) The right is almost pain-free, as long as I don't shove my hands in my pockets (which I have a habit of doing a lot!). The left is more blistered, but it's healing. It'll teach me to pay closer attention when cooking!
