Miss me?

*waves*

Hi!

It’s several years since I’ve posted.

There are a lot of reasons. I needed to take a break from digital, but it wasn’t supposed to be for so long. I’m trying to bring myself back into the world. I’ve got loads to talk about, but I think I should probably start small.

I haven’t written fic for years, either. Partly that was because I was working on a novel. Unfortunately that’s still a work in progress. The other reason was time; my job got really busy and I found I had very little space left in my head for, well, all the stuff that used to be fun. But I have a new job, now, less stress, a bit more time on my hands.

So, it’s time to see if I can remember how this fanfic thing works.

My longest fic, is a Stargate SG-1 AU, Phoenix. I have spent some time revising this, added some stuff, closed a couple of plot holes (although there’s one left that bugs me, which I can’t figure out how to fix) and generally smartened up the writing and killed typos.

I actually wrote a whole new chapter, but I ended up not including it. The original flows well, and this new bit - it’s a Sam-centric piece that belongs near the beginning, as the action moves to the new off-world base - felt wrong in there. I’m mulling over a possible sequel and if this idea goes somewhere that new chapter can be the prologue. If not, I will post it on AO3 as a “bonus” story…but let me know if you’d like to see it here.

I also have something new to share!

No idea why Stargate SG-1 is the fandom that’s got me writing again, but this just happened. I stopped watching Stargate at season 7; the fandom wasn’t fun any more and Atlantis never lit my imagination in the same way. Never saw the movies or the other series. But I’m rewatching (from the beginning - I’m currently in season 4) and we’ll see what happens when I get to the episodes I’ve never seen.

In the meantime, I offer Lost in Translation - a wee bit of smut inspired by my rewatch.

So *waves* let me know if you’re still around.

*waves* Hi! I'm still...intermittently around (once a week listing the stuff I did at work, mostly, and the occasional venting about inevitable work crises). Good to (digitally) see you and glad to hear that you've a new, less-stress-filled job! :)

I'm currently at a uni in Phnom Penh, Cambodia-- it's outside my discipline, unfortunately, and HR are already targeting me for being openly queer (grey-ace/bi), so I'm probably only here for the academic year (if that long). Coincidentally, our librarian at the uni is from Aberystwyth! :) Before this I was in a hellish job in Ethiopia, then a not-great job in Armenia, then a job that didn't pay me enough in Karachi, then a horrible job in a great place in Korea, then before that I was in a nice job in a terrible uni in Laredo, Texas. :P

That’s some globe-trotting you’ve been doing!

I'm up to 6 countries applied to for the next academic year... :P

Being targeted as LGBTTQ+ sucks; I’ve always been lucky that way but the UK is getting more unfriendly. I guess, not compared to some places, but still, we seem to be going backwards.

Yeah, it's more the admins that I've had issues with. Faculty and students either don't care or are supportive, but most of the places where I've had issues don't have legal protections. Lots of places in the US are moving backwards, too-- I have a list of states where I won't bother applying to. :/

I’m still in the same place. Can’t move now because someone has to take care of Mum. Plans to leave “someday”…

::hugs:: Here's hoping, but I also hope your mum is around a good long while, yet! :)

I rarely hang out at live journal anymore. I joined a bunch of communities on Dreamwidth. They give me something to do. I’m still into the Sentinel.

One of my favorites is Fandom weekly. There is a prompt every week and it’s just fun. There is one called fan_flashworks that is also fun. I’m going to try and remember all the others. All bingo is fun. A new game every month or so. Fandom empire is another. Right now it’s the Powerball game, but something new will come up when this is done. There are so many to join.
