Miss me?

Hi!
It’s several years since I’ve posted.
There are a lot of reasons. I needed to take a break from digital, but it wasn’t supposed to be for so long. I’m trying to bring myself back into the world. I’ve got loads to talk about, but I think I should probably start small.
I haven’t written fic for years, either. Partly that was because I was working on a novel. Unfortunately that’s still a work in progress. The other reason was time; my job got really busy and I found I had very little space left in my head for, well, all the stuff that used to be fun. But I have a new job, now, less stress, a bit more time on my hands.
So, it’s time to see if I can remember how this fanfic thing works.
My longest fic, is a Stargate SG-1 AU, Phoenix. I have spent some time revising this, added some stuff, closed a couple of plot holes (although there’s one left that bugs me, which I can’t figure out how to fix) and generally smartened up the writing and killed typos.
I actually wrote a whole new chapter, but I ended up not including it. The original flows well, and this new bit - it’s a Sam-centric piece that belongs near the beginning, as the action moves to the new off-world base - felt wrong in there. I’m mulling over a possible sequel and if this idea goes somewhere that new chapter can be the prologue. If not, I will post it on AO3 as a “bonus” story…but let me know if you’d like to see it here.
I also have something new to share!
No idea why Stargate SG-1 is the fandom that’s got me writing again, but this just happened. I stopped watching Stargate at season 7; the fandom wasn’t fun any more and Atlantis never lit my imagination in the same way. Never saw the movies or the other series. But I’m rewatching (from the beginning - I’m currently in season 4) and we’ll see what happens when I get to the episodes I’ve never seen.
In the meantime, I offer Lost in Translation - a wee bit of smut inspired by my rewatch.
So *waves* let me know if you’re still around.

Being targeted as LGBTTQ+ sucks; I’ve always been lucky that way but the UK is getting more unfriendly. I guess, not compared to some places, but still, we seem to be going backwards.
I’m still in the same place. Can’t move now because someone has to take care of Mum. Plans to leave “someday”…

I'm up to 6 countries applied to for the next academic year... :P

Yeah, it's more the admins that I've had issues with. Faculty and students either don't care or are supportive, but most of the places where I've had issues don't have legal protections. Lots of places in the US are moving backwards, too-- I have a list of states where I won't bother applying to. :/

::hugs:: Here's hoping, but I also hope your mum is around a good long while, yet! :)
