So, what next?
This weekend I completed two long fics: posted the final chapters of Resistance and posted Climbing To The Light which is a remix? re-edit? re-write? (kind of all three) of End of the World. I had finished the latter a while back but because it’s a do-over I wanted to sit with it a while and it’s taken me this long to come up with a title I was happy with.
So, now I need to pick a new project. I have the sequel to Phoenix, or the Sentinel/Death in Paradise crossover I started mulling over, or I can give my brain a rest with some short challenge fics and see what inspiration strikes for a new long story. Long is definitely my comfort zone.
Phoenix
Stargate SG-1 AU in which Daniel joins the Tok’Ra after a life-changing injury. I have three or four ideas for continuing this.
I have a big chunk already written: a complete story in which Daniel|Entar and SG-1 rescue another team from an old enemy. This story also lays the foundation for two longer plot-threads - one for SG-1, and one involving that old enemy’s return.
I have a clear plan for another piece that comes from one of the unresolved threads in the original story - what was really going on with Jacob|Selmak at the end - and also involves the rebel Jaffa and how that plays out in this AU.
And that leads into a third piece which is a nice ship for Jack as well as a really exciting story for Daniel|Entar.
There are some other things I haven’t thought how to bring into the overall story - dealing with the stargate becoming public knowledge (which happened at the end of Phoenix, Jack and Daniel’s relationship being affected by Daniel’s alternate timeline, and maybe bringing some elements of Atlantis into the story.
Here’s my problem. I don’t know whether this is several relatively short stories or one epic novel. Phoenix is close to 200,000 words. If I pull all my ideas into one overarching novel, it will be just as long. And that feels right, but it needs a thread to pull it all together and I’m not sure I have one. But if I try to write these ideas as separate, linked stories I’m going to run into timeline issues.
Maybe I need to sit with this one a bit longer before making a final call.
Sentinel in Paradise
I really want to write this. I’ve got a good idea and from a character-perspective it almost writes itself, but Death in Paradise is a Christie-esque mystery show. It’s not so much a who-dunnit as a how-dunnit. Which means I have to plot it backwards: figure out who and how then play it out backwards to make it work. And I have NEVER done that before. I have no idea how long it will take me.
Other ideas
Nothing yet - but that’s the point, isn’t it?
If I commit myself to one of the above, I won’t be writing anything else until I’m done with whichever project I pick.
Or I can leave those on the back burner and take a break with some other fandoms, do some flashfics and see what new ideas pop up for a new project.

I love the Sentinel idea too. Good luck in choosing and finding the time to do all the work. I'm looking forward to anything you write. :) Hugs.
