Paranoid

Does no one read gen any more? Or is it just that no one comments on it? If it was that bad, please tell me...

Never mind. It's not the feedback I care about so much as knowing it's being read.

Maybe I should figure out a way to include a hit counter.

I do think a lot of people read online for the slash element. I also have noticed after reading widely in *mumble* fandoms for *mumble* years that some fandoms - TS for instance, have good Gen readership and other fandoms do not.

In point of fact, in many fandoms the Gen readers do not crossover - ever - and vice versa. Again TS comes to mind as one of the exceptions where readership seems to straddle the divide comfortably and without rancor for the most part, whereas in LOTR I find myself as one of the few that reads both. I even read Interspecies and that is the wicked step sister in that fandom.

For all that I am unfamiliar wth SPN except to as what you have 'edumacated' me to by slipping in Jim and Blair ; ) Maybe there is a layer of Gen SPN peeps you need to locate? I do know I ran across a couple of het SPN stories here recently somewhere...

...there was a point to this comment but I fear I have wandered and forgotten and I apologize : (

You write really well, sweetie. Maybe you just need to find you some Gen readers and chat them up?

Thanks, hon. I know a lot of people don't cross genres; I don't, usually, within a fandom.

My post wasn't meant as an accusation to anyone. It's just frustrating to get loads of feedback for a fic I know isn't much good, then post something I believe is and get nothing but silence.

But it's not feedback. I'm not looking for an ego stroke, just to know someone's out there reading it. Because if they're not, why bother to post?

Thanks for replying...I'm just being dumb, I know.

Not pouting, no. I know you are not a 'fb ho', but a huge part of being in lj and posting a WIP is the energy exchange between reader and writer. That said, there are a lot of writers here and not so many 'pure' readers *waggles eyebrows* and sometimes writers have to seek out a soundboard niche for their work, especially if they are trying their hand at a Gen story when they have written SPN'cest in the past.

I promise you that when I do get retired here this year, please God *crosses fingers for luck* I will read your Gen story. I finished saving to disk all of your TS catalog, reading the shorter pieces as I went along so I know for sure you are a good writer and that your masterful Three P universe was not a fluke ; ) When you killed them off in that one short story, Blair first you had me snotting into my kleenex back in my office at work and that is a no-no of the highest order. There's no crying in the workplace! You got me! Thank you ; )

I prefer slash, but I DO read gen, especially when it's by writers whose work I enjoy (like you!).

I also always try to send fb whenever I can.

Then again, if you're talking about a fandom in which I don't read, I guess I haven't sent any. =>}

I am still surprised by the number of readers who seem to take authors for granted and never send any fb for stories they get to read for FREE!!! So selfish of them, imo.

I know you do, love. My post wasn't meant to guilt-trip anyone, especially not you!

I'm just paranoid, I guess.

[identity profile] betagoddess.livejournal.com 2007-01-28 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't feel guilty, don't worry. =>}

But don't be paranoid. You are SUCH a good writer! *g*

I didn't read it because I just can't deal with another WIP. I have one of my own, and more than I'm happy with that I got caught up in and am now DYING to see finished.

So when it's done I'll read it, I like Gen, and there doesn't ever seem to be enough of it, done well. *G*

I didn't read it because I just can't deal with another WIP.

I can't blame you for that :-)

I wasn't trying to guilt-trip. It's just been a bad week.

Love the icon, BTW!

Hee! No guilt trip, don't worry. I just figured since you were asking, I'd tell. *G*

And thank you!

I've got your SPN stories on my list to read. I can't be happier that you're writing gen in that fandom as I know that there is at least one good author that I like, *you* who's not doing slash with the brothers. I haven't boarded that handbasket yet. *g*

[identity profile] morgan32.livejournal.com 2007-01-28 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I know that there is at least one good author that I like, *you* who's not doing slash with the brothers.

LOL! Oh, honey, I'm totally doing slash. Just not in this one fic. Some plots don't need it, you know?

Thanks for the compliment.

D'oh! I swear my mind is going - or at least taking vacations without telling me first. I still look forward to reading it when it's done. And, if anything is going to get me into SPN slash, it'll be Cry Wolf, which yes, is in a pile o' fic to be read.
