Having a week...and it's only Monday
I installed a new hard drive in my PC on the weekend. It's working great, and is more than twice the size of the old one. But somehow installing it has killed my CD/DVD drive. I just went over all the hardware and I can't find anything hooked up wrong. But the PC just doesn't recognise the drive is there. It's like it's been removed altogether.
This could be an opportunity to get a new one...but the PC itself is going to need replacing soon. I can only upgrade for so long. I guess I can live without a CD drive. For now.
There was supposed to be a strike in my workplace today. I'm not a union member: don't see why I should pay good money for the privilege of being bullied by a bunch of delusional megalomaniacs. Don't know whether PCS are useful in other workplaces but in mine their biggest acheivement in the time I've been working there was to force HR replace a perfectly good performance management system with one that no one likes and which never even works.
But that ain't the point. The point is this strike. Which was called off on Friday afternoon, just before I left work and well after the time I usually leave on a Friday. And I'm not the only one who likes Friday afternoons off - that's the lovely thing about flexitime. So there would have been a lot of union members who had no idea the strike had been cancelled, and no way to find out. People who probably didn't show up today and now are going to have to use a day of their leave to make up the day. Frakking idiots, those union peeps.
My dad had this catchphrase: you're only happy when you're miserable. While that's not true of my psychologically, it certainly seems to be true of my body. No sooner do I lick one problem, another shows up. Today - and for most of the weekend - it's my knee. I don't remember injuring it, but it's darn painful. It doesn't hurt to walk on, or when I do anything in particular. It's just this shooting pain, totally at random. I can't figure it out. I missed my movie on Saturday because by the time I got to the cinema the thought of having to sit still for two hours with this pain every five minutes was just too much. Wish I knew what the heck was wrong.
On the bright side, I'm working a three-day week this week. On Thursday I'm planning to stay home, beat my muse into submission and break the back of this Sentinel fic.

Damn! Technology can be SUCH a bitch! Good luck getting the CD drive fixed!
I hope your knee stops hurting very soon!
And may I say, YAY for you working on your Sentinel fic? *g*
