Okay, I guess I'll have to check that out again. I remember there was a discussion about that going on at dean_sam once and people seemed to agree that his eyes aren't fully black in that scene. Anyways, like you said, the writers are probably doing that to keep us guessing since there is a possibility that Sam could go fully demon by using his powers.
