Quick movie review: Friday 13th

Well...it's a better movie than My Bloody Valentine. Actually, for a Platinum Dunes film it was downright plotty.

Am I missing the point if I say there was a bit too much death? I don't think so. There's a point beyond which the body count just gets boring. But I did enjoy it, and there were a few surprises - not all of them the horrible kind. Also, it was genuinely funny in a couple of places.

More to say when I'm a bit more awake. Except, you know what really disappointed me? I went to see My Bloody Valentine thinking it would be kinda cool to see Dean Winchester die horribly...and he didn't die. And though I don't hate Sam the same way, I spent most of this movie wondering just how horribly Jared's character would die....and then we didn't see it happen! Where's the fun in two slasher flicks in which the sexiest person on screen doesn't get a nice gory death?

He can be slaughtered or mentally insane in the sequel? Maybe?

Just out of curiosity, were any of the deaths cringeworthy? Blood I can handle but broken bones and such get me a little queasy and I do want to go see the movie at one point or another.

Uh...just one that falls into that category, I think. But that's pretty unpleasant. Oh...wait. Two. And a third that's a maybe but I'm pretty sure that person was already dead before it happened.

That's as far as I remember - there are so many, but most of the deaths are quick-and-dirty.

Huh. You mean a guy survived in not one, but two horror films? I think I'm disgruntled!

It is odd, though. I mean, the slasher tradition is "the final girl" who survives to the end. The only final guy is supposed to be the killer. MBV pretty much followed that tradition, but F13 surprised me. I think Clay's death at the very end is implied, but it certainly wasn't seen on-screen.
