2010 Fic Round-Up
In January I posted Unearthed, a short HTLJ fic set in the present day. HTLJ was my first fandom online, and I miss it terribly. I don't think this fic is particularly great, but it was lovely revisiting my old muses for a while.
I also posted Don't Ask, Don't Tell an angsty Supernatural fic, set pre-series.
In February I didn't post any fics.
In March I posted Negotiation, my entry for![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
intoabar - a True Blood/Supernatural crossover. While I hated my assignment, mostly because it was so predictable that if I asked for True Blood I'd be assigned Eric, I really like this story.
In April I didn't post any fics.
In May I posted Trust Doesn't Rust, my entry for sncross_bigbang. This was Supernatural/Jennifer's Body and I had so much fun writing it!
I also posted Untaming the Wolf, an Oz-focussed BTVS vignette and No Place Like Home, a short SPN fic with a Jo/Ash pairing...now there's one I never thought I'd write!
In June and July I didn't post any fics.
In August I saw Inception and immediately wrote To Drown In An Ocean Of Tears. I planned to follow it with lots more Inception fics, but the fandom got so huge my muse got scared off. I like small, friendly fandoms, I do! But I still have 3 in the WIP file, so who knows?
In September I posted The Haunting of Jessica Moore, my entry forladiesbigbang, a pre-series Supernatural story inspired by The Haunting of Hill House.
In October I posted just a snippet of a Haven/Supernatural crossover which at the time was Untitled.
In November I didn't post any fics.
In December I posted two short fics: A Single Star is fanfic for![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
geonncannon's Riley Parra stories, and is a Christmas fic involving two things I would never normally write about: angels and childbirth. The things I'll do for a friend, eh? Persistence is a short H/C Sentinel fic set in my Predator 'verse.
I also posted Impulse, my entry for Yuletide. This is Vampire Diaries femslash (Bonnie/Caroline), with Caroline struggling to control her vampire instincts as they try to rebuild their friendship post-Masquerade.

My best story of this year:
In my opinion, The Haunting of Jessica Moore. It started as a simple riff of The Haunting of Hill House but it turned into something quite different. I'm really proud of it.
My favourite story of this year:
Trust Doesn't Rust. It began as a fun 'what-if' and ended up a complex AU based on SPN S5. I even managed to get a John cameo in there!
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Hm. Well, Unearthed didn't get a single comment...but it's not my best work. So I guess that's fair.
Most fun story to write:
The Haunting of Jessica Moore. It was one of those stories that almost wrote itself, you know? Even though parts of it were really challenging.
Sexiest story:
I haven't written a lot of sex this year. I guess No Place Like Home wins by default.
Story with the single sexiest moment:
See above. Although for me the sexiest thing I've written in a long time is Dean singing Smells Like Teen Spirit in Trust Doesn't Rust.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
A Single Star. I do not do angels!
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
Um...Impulse. I had to watch some episodes three or four times over to get the character voices right and in doing that I got to know them a lot better.
Hardest story to write:
Persistence. Because it's been a WIP forever and because returning to that 'verse wasn't easy, although once I was back in that headspace the writing went smoothly.
Biggest Disappointment:
The lack of comments on fics I felt really deserved them. Although it's largely my fault - I haven't really advertised my fics this year.
Biggest Surprise:
Writing Jo/Ash. Also the ending of that story. When I started it, I genuinely didn't realise they were in Heaven.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
I don't know. You'd have to tell me :-)
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
More, because I started the year thinking I'd have much less time to write than I ended up with.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2010?

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I think The Haunting of Jessica Moore was a big risk for me in a way. I was writing forladiesbigbang so focussed on the female characters (in a notoriously misogynistic fandom!) and I was writing about the kind of relationships I've never really had. But it seemed to work out in the end.

I want to finish at least two of the fics mentioned in my last post.
