I read about this on The F Word yesterday. I figured I'd wait 'till I could think coherently before I'd post...but today I'm just as boiling mad.

Today, the ass issued an apology. He didn't mean to offend "individual homosexual persons, but the promoters of gay culture". Dude, gay culture is about individual persons, and we have as much fucking right to promote our culture as you do your faith.

To paraphrase his own words: "Let us make it obligatory for ~~homosexuals~~ Christians to have their backsides tattooed with the slogan ~~SODOMY~~ RELIGION CAN SERIOUSLY DAMAGE YOUR HEALTH and their chins with ~~FELLATIO~~ THE BIBLE KILLS."

How would you like that? Asshole.

This is hate speech. He should be prosecuted - this is clearly illegal under UK law, and the bastard posted it on the internet: it should be an open and shut case for the CPS. But I bet it won't happen.

What amazes me was the number of idiots on the Daily Mail website (ok, amaze is probably the wrong word!) are agreeing under the guise of free speech and I'm sorry, but free speech should not cover this kind of vile and uninformed comments!

I'm having a difficult time putting into words just how angry I am!

Free speech has limits, even in the US. In the UK, we don't have free speech - we just think we do. Equality legislation passed over the past few years outlawed stuff like this. It's "incitement to hatred"; in this case particularly so as he's clearly suggesting gay people ought to be treated as the Nazis treated the Jews (and gays).

I do understand the Christian difficulty with homosexuality but private religious beliefs are not an excuse for this kind of thing.

I get that I do, it's more that people think it's okay to say this stuff then go "You have to let me say this! Free speech! Free speech!" It's just not okay at all.

And I agree, the same thing annoys me about some religious officials, "You have to let me say this! I'm a Christian!" again, no it's not right and it doesn't make these comments any less ignorant or hateful.

I'm completely boggled at how he could call something so incredibly hateful satire or joking. Just. What? That's hate speech and just absolutely disgusting no matter what he calls it. What century is this again?

Probably not, but it's not like he doesn't deserve it.

I thought as a race we were beyond that horrific an idea with dealing with people we don't like. I was clearly wrong and this is a very sad thought.

Well...that's a more civilised reaction than mine. Personally, I'd like to tattoo him. With a blunt needle. And poisoned ink.

Religion has certainly killed more people than homosexuality (the Crusades alone, geez). And more straight women in India have AIDs than all the gay people in Britain because they aren't allowed to ask their cheating bastard husbands to use a condom, much less refuse to have sex with them. And let's not even get into the AIDs crisis in American (straight!) teenagers because the religious fundies over here have prevented adequate sex education of even the 'use a condom you dumb bastards' sort because obviously abstinence solves all our problems! Argh.
