*takes new cable modem hugs it and pets it and calls it George*

Holy cow - that's like a whole week without internet. I'm such a geek; I was literally getting withdrawal. Now I've got a week's worth of *cough* downloading to catch up on not to mention heaps of LJ and email but wow, it's good to be back!

So the new modem actually arrived yesterday, while I was out (darn it!). I got everything installed way easier than I thought as they actually supplied the handy tool I needed to switch the cable over. This was the part I didn't believe I'd be able to do on my own - physically, I mean. That cable was screwed in tight. Anyhoo, got that done, called tech to get the new modem registered, all fine and dandy...but I couldn't pick up an internet connection. I get impatient with tech support. I shouldn't 'cause I used to do that job and I know what idiots customers can be...but I usually find I know more about this stuff than techs reading from a script. So, impatient. But this time I was talking to a tech who did have a clue and still couldn't get online. She thought it was my hardware, hence not her problem.

This morning I figured out the idiot rookie mistake I'd made and fixed it. Yay! I probably owe that poor tech a hug, but I'm pretty sure I was talking to an Indian callcentre instead of Swansea. So no dice there.

*takes deep breath*

Yesterday's movie was a preview showing of Sweeny Todd - dude, Johnny Depp is super-creepy and the film is amazing! I'll post a proper review later but seriously, unless you're squeamish, run, don't walk and go see it. It's brilliant.

Okay. Gotta find a torrent of last week's Flash Gordon. And this weeks! Later!

Sweeny Todd is one of the great urban legends of England. Like Jack the Ripper, everyone knows the story of the barber who slit the throats of his customers and disposed of the bodies by providing meat for his landlady's pie shop. The tale been told and re-told over and again; in the earliest versions his motive is theft but it was the recasting of the story as a revenge tragedy that really caught at the public imagination. That's the version which became the West End musical and which now, is one hell of a movie.
