Ficcy musings
Jun. 17th, 2008 12:45 pmI revised my
spn_summergen story; no major changes but I'm officially on the third draft. I like that. Third draft means I can officially stop fretting about it because I'm happy with what's there...at least until a beta tells me everything that's wrong with it :-)
I also finished the John/Jo fic I've been dabbling with for ages. I started this story well over a year ago, but it never really went anywhere. But I was so mean to Jo in Never Say Die that I promised her I'd write something where she gets to have fun...and this, apparently, is it, though there's a healthy amount of angst mixed up with the fun. First draft done; I need a decent title for it, though.
Writing sex is so boring! Reading it is fantastic, but I really dislike writing those graphic sex scenes.
So in going through my WIP file to figure out what I'm going to work on next, I used that to narrow it down. There's still my threesome fic on the shortlist, because most of the graphic stuff in that one is already done. Beyond that, I've narrowed it down to two: the Dreamwalker sequel and a SPN/Angel crossover. Both would be (broadly) gen.
The trouble with the Dreamwalker sequel is the scenario is one I have no idea how to resolve. I mean, the boys get rid of ghosts by salting-and-burning the body, right? There seem to be other ways, like in the pilot and Bloody Mary but basically, it's salt-and-burn. So what can they do when that's not an option? When we're talking literally hundreds of bodies in a graveyard and they won't know which one is which? I don't know. I can't change the plot - this is a story I've had in mind since I wrote the first story. So I need a way to not get my boys killed before I can really write this one.
I think I'm leaning toward writing the crossover first, though, because it's one of those plot bunnies I really wish someone else would write, so I can read it...but I don't think anyone will. It'll be more Supernatural than Angel, which kinda breaks my "rule" for crossovers, but I don't have a better way to do it. Dumping the Winchesters in Angel's version of LA just wouldn't work for me (and anyhow it would miss the point of this story). I have a working title: The Exiles and it'll be Stanford-era so Sam-lite. Dunno if I can work Sam into it somewhere...I'll have to give that some thought. I'm also not sure how long it'll end up being. When I did my outline I was thinking about 5000 words but I keep thinking of details I should add and it'll sneakily get longer. Maybe a lot longer.
