Another weekend gone
Oct. 27th, 2008 08:20 am*Sigh* another weekend is over. It's now quarterly results week in work which means y'all probably won't want to talk to me for a while. The downside of my job (for those who don't know I work in economic statistics: specifically international trade) is that when the sky is falling, I really see it. The state of the world economy at the moment...well, it ain't good, which makes work seriously depressing.
This weekend I:
Also, I was invited to join the beta test of the Archive of Our Own. I have begun to upload my stories (starting with my Sentinel fics) to the archive. The software is really great. There's no "Help" section that I could find but it's really not needed. Everything is really intuitive and self-explanatory. I especially love the warnings/ratings system they've created, with the warnings represented by graphics, so those who don't like warnings aren't given too much information, but it's there for those who want it.
I'm registered there as "morgan32", for those who want to check it out.
I know there's a danger (or even an inevitability) that the archive will end up like ff.net in terms of the quality of fic, but the new features they are planning will, I think, mean it's much easier than it is at the Pit of Voles to track down the good stuff and to keep up with particular authors. The only thing the archive doesn't have that I'd like to see is RSS feeds...but you can't have everything, can you?
This weekend I:
- Saw Incendiary at the movies: good film. Review to follow if I can find time this evening.
- Finished a first draft of the Dean/Bobby fic that
castalie wanted me to finish. It's not fit for publication; hell, it's not fit for viewing by a beta yet, but it's a beginning. 3,200 words.
- Also managed about 500 more words in my picture challenge fic. This one's hard work because the plot is procedural; every little thing takes research, even if that research consists of refreshing my memory of how TS does it, rather than the legal realities.
