Why do I do these things?
Jan. 19th, 2010 08:24 amIf you've never done it, you don't know how much work goes into some fandom events. I chaired the Stargate Fan Awards for years and believe me, anyone who runs something like that is taking on a monster. No way will I ever get involved in something that big again.
But I've done smaller things. Last year I co-modded spn_summergen. I learned some tough lessons from that experience and this year it'll be less stressful, I hope.
And this year, looks like I'm modding a Sentinel Big Bang. But I'm gonna be organised and make damn sure there's room in my schedule along with everything else I'm doing this year.
In getting stuff ready for the Sentinel thing, I needed to come up with a "fake" fanfic to use as a demo. People who sign up will have a form/template to fill out. To make it clear what's required, I'll post a completed template as an example, and to do that, I've got to include story details. This is not as straightforward as it sounds, as my example has to include things that demonstrate certain rules but at the same time, it shouldn't be too close to a story someone might write (or it has to be generic and vague enough to not step on someone's toes if it does hit close to their idea). So last night I was mulling over the things I had to cover, and eventually I came up with a fic summary that I think will work. Purely as an example, you understand.
Bet you know what's coming next. I must have thought about it too much, 'cause I kinda want to write that story! *groan*
Okay, it's been a while since I've written a plotty TS story and I do miss Jim and Blair. And this would be a genre I've never written before and a crossover with a fandom I've never even thought about writing. So I don't see me doing it. But, man, it would be an intriguing story!
