briarwood: Supernatural: Jo Fights Like A Girl (SPN Jo Fighter)
You know, doing this meme is really making me realise how many of my favourite shows are missing from my icon collection. I really must fix that. But, on with today's entry...

( The Days )

Day 09 - Best scene ever

This was an easy one. Although I'm not sure the sheer power of it will come across viewing the scene out of context, the absolute best scene in all of television (that I'm aware of) is the climactic scene of Babylon 5's mid-point episode, Severed Dreams. Even typing this now, I get a shiver just remembering it. Watching the scene never fails to make my breath catch. The thing is, so much builds into this moment, the context is everything. It's both a coming together of plot threads that had been building for more than 50 episodes, and a massive turning point for both the overall plot arc and many of the characters.

More explanation and clip under the cut )

Babylon 5 had its faults as a TV show, not least some seriously awful dialogue. But on one thing I can't fault it: this show always, always delivered on it's climactic moments. So many shows go for the big build-up and when the moment finally arrives, it is ultimately unsatisfying. Babylon 5 always delivered in spades. From this scene the stakes got higher, the shocks deeper, the climactic scenes bigger. But this is the one that I find most memorable. Nothing else, in any other series I've seen, comes close to the power of those two minutes of TV.

The circus last night was fun. Not the best I've seen, but an entertaining evening. It's called "Uncle Sam's Great American Circus" and as far as I could tell, the only thing American about it was the stars and stripes on the big top. Certainly all the performers with speaking parts were European and there was nothing particularly American about the acts. Which is all to the good, I guess.

The clowns were really great. A couple of the acts were truly impressive, but the remainder was kinda blah. Not bad, just not exactly supportive of the advertising claiming they are "the best on planet earth". But that's okay; extravagant claims are part of the show.

The performance was at five and it's right next to my place of work so I didn't bother going home. I just headed into the park to sit under a tree and write fic. [livejournal.com profile] geonncannon gave me a prompt a few days ago. My plan was to write about 500 words, as I did for [personal profile] birggitt's prompt the other day. But my Jo-muse just ain't gonna be satisfied with a ficlet. I went from ficlet to porn to omg-where-did-that-plot-come-from in the two hours I was in the park. So it's still unfinished. Hope to post for you tonight or tomorrow :)

(Note to self: It's not a good idea to write porn in a public place. You know why.)

I am enjoying the TV meme, and enjoying seeing others' answers, too. Mostly, I like that it's keeping me posting, so I'm thinking I should continue this idea. I've seen a generic "30 days" meme, with questions about music and pictures and suchlike. I've also seen a writing 30 days, though the questions seem to be directed at original rather than fan writing. Is there a 30 Days meme for fanfic? Or how about one for reading/books? I guess I could make up my own but if there's an existing meme already out there I'd rather do what everyone else is doing.

On the subject of TV, is anyone on my flist knowledgable about the Bible? Or the Torah, since my question involves the Old Testament. Something fans keep saying about the SPN finale has me puzzled. Cut for spoilers, just in case someone hasn't seen it yet. )
