Fic: Revolution (Stargate SG-1) WIP
Nov. 20th, 2023 04:49 pmTitle: Revolution
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Category: Slash, AU
Paring: Jack/Teal'c
Summary: Canon-divergence from Children of the Gods. The first time Teal’c met Colonel Jack O'Neill he defied Apophis’ orders to kill the Tau’ri prisoners. The second time Teal’c met Colonel Jack O'Neill, it was in battle, and he again spared the Tau’ri commander’s life. When they met for a third time, it changed everything.
Link: Revolution - first two chapters on AO3 (It's going to be at least 6 chapters - I will do my best to post weekly)
Some introductory musings: I was an insufferable know-it-all when I was at school. Rarely did I break the rules and even more rarely did I get caught. Teachers just seemed to assume I had permission to be places I shouldn't have been. But there was one occasion when I earned a detention after school. Since I lived nearly four miles walk away and the weather was awful, a teacher drove me home afterward. During the drive, music was playing, and a song came on that really affected me. It was actually three tracks that merged together to tell a story. I was fascinated by it - the way the music illustrated the story, the way three very different songs were actually one thing. And the ending was so emotional! I spent the next two years trying to track down that song. When I finally worked up the courage to ask the teacher in question about it, he couldn't remember the track. My only clue was the singer's voice - it sounded like Chris de Burgh. This was around the time you couldn't turn on a TV or radio without hearing Lady in Red. It was also pre-internet so there was no easy way to track down an artist's back-catalogue. I basically checked Chris de Burgh albums every time I was in a music store but I wasn't even certain it was him. Eventually I found an old album of his I'd never seen before with a spooky cover and it had a track called The Revolution. I bought the album instantly - no way to listen to it first - and I was thrilled when I played it to discover the final tracks were the three-in-one piece I remembered.
I remain obsessed with that musical trilogy. If you can, go find it. The album is Chris de Burgh's The Getaway, and it's the last three tracks: Revolution, Light a Fire, and Liberty. OMG, goosebumps every time.
This fic is, at least in part, a product of that song. It still gets stuck in my head regularly. The lyrics don't really match my fic, but it's going to hit the right beats.
