I've been awake since 3am. No reason, at least I don't think so. I just woke up and then couldn't sleep again.

I ended up online (of course!) and found the torrent of Private Practice was already up, so downloaded that and was able to watch the show with breakfast. Nice. I really enjoy PP. It's a "happy-place" show for me: I'll never write fic about it or get all fannish, but I won't miss an episode and it's one I rewatch when I just don't have the energy for something else.

I also found a National Express fare to Birmingham that's actually less than half the rail fare. Which means I can go to Memorabilia next month. It'll be a hell of a day; I won't get home until late and I guess I'll have to walk from Digbeth to the city centre and then find a bus to International. More research needed, but it should be do-able. (I loathe Digbeth coach station, though. Waiting there is like pinning a sign on your back saying "please assault me".)

But I do love Memorabilia. It's like a giant Toys R Us for media fans. It's changed so much since I first started attending...um, five or six years ago, I guess. Maybe even longer. There are some things you can't find anywhere else (or, I can't anyhow). It's a silly place to buy DVDs as there's usually a huge markeup but other things are far cheaper there than online. In the past few years the stage area has become much more interesting, too; I don't so Memorabilia to see the guests, but they're a worthwhile bonus, and sometimes they have really fun demos. Mostly, I just get a kick out of the stormtroopers working security :-)

Tomorrow is James Bond Day: I'm hoping I can leave work early so I can make it to the cinema for an evening show rather than going on Saturday. Cardiff is starting to get its Christmas crowds (seriously, it's not even Hallowe'en yet! And we're supposed to be in a recession!) and although I'm better than I used to be I still shy away from crowds.

That'll give me the weekend free to...find more reasons to put off writing, I guess.

Winston Churchill first ran for election to the House of Commons in 1900.

During that election, he was canvassing door to door when he came to the home of a grouchy man who said, "Vote for you, Churchill? Why I'd rather vote for the Devil!"

"I understand," replied Churchill, "But in case your friend is not running, can I count on your support?"

...I don't say it's relevant to anything in particular.
